Slow Horses Season 7 Adds Five Actors as Government Faces a Mole Threat

Apple TV has added five actors to the cast of Slow Horses season 7, expanding the spy drama’s ensemble as Jackson Lamb’s team takes on a threat inside the British government. Varada Sethu, Ethan Moorhouse, Tuppence Middleton, Merab Ninidze and Joshua McGuire will join Gary Oldman and returning cast member James Callis in the upcoming season.

The new season adapts Bad Actors, a novel in Mick Herron’s Slough House series. Its central mission puts the team on the hunt for a mole at the heart of government who could bring down the state.

Five new names.

Deadline reported the casting on Monday, naming Sethu, Moorhouse, Middleton, Ninidze and McGuire as additions. Callis will return as Claude Whelan, while Oldman reprises his role as Jackson Lamb.

Sethu’s credits include The Other Bennet Sister and Andor. Moorhouse has appeared in The Moment and Ludwig; Middleton’s credits include Downton Abbey: A New Era and Mank. Ninidze appeared in Homeland and The Courier, while McGuire has appeared in The Gold and Anatomy of a Scandal.

The casting brings performers with varied screen credits into a season built around an internal security threat. The published reports do not identify the characters the five newcomers will play.

Slow Horses season 7 new cast joins the mole hunt

The story follows a dysfunctional group of British intelligence agents assigned to Slough House, a department of MI5 used as a dumping ground for agents who have made career-ending mistakes. Lamb leads the team, which repeatedly finds itself caught in the complications of espionage.

Season 7 is based on Bad Actors. Deadline said Lamb and the Slow Horses will try to find and neutralize a mole inside the British government before the person can bring down the state. The premise puts the team’s investigation at the center of the new season, rather than introducing a separate mission.

The returning ensemble includes Jack Lowden, Kristin Scott Thomas, Jonathan Pryce, Hugo Weaving, Saskia Reeves, Rosalind Eleazar, Christopher Chung, Aimee-Ffion Edwards, Joanna Scanlan, Tom Brooke, Lucian Msamati and Olivia Cooke.

Variety also reported the five new castings and said the season adapts Herron’s Bad Actors. Its report describes Lamb’s team as including Lowden as River Cartwright, Chung as Roddy Ho, Reeves as Catherine Standish and Edwards as Shirley Dander.

That focus on a mole at the heart of government gives the season’s spy plot a direct institutional target. The reports offer no further detail about the mole’s identity or the new actors’ roles, so the additions’ place in the investigation remains unspecified.

Ben Vanstone adapted the novel for television and serves as an executive producer. Robert McKillop is set to direct, Deadline reported.

See-Saw Films produces the series for Apple TV. The production’s executive producers include Jamie Laurenson, Hakan Kousetta, Iain Canning, Emile Sherman, Dan Hassid, Helen Gregory, Mick Herron, Gail Mutrux, Douglas Urbanski and Oldman.

Deadline reported that the season’s team must find and neutralize the mole before that person can bring down the state.
