Doja Cat Discusses New Album, Mars and Ghosts on Jennifer Hudson Show
Doja Cat appeared on The Jennifer Hudson Show on Friday, November 6, discussing her new album, Vie, and answering rapid-fire questions about life on Mars, plane etiquette and ghosts. She also described how a childhood alter ego named Michael continues to influence her artistic sensibility.

Jennifer Hudson welcomed Doja Cat to The Jennifer Hudson Show on Friday, November 6, where the singer discussed her recently released album, Vie, and answered questions about life on Mars, ghosts and plane etiquette.
The appearance brought Doja’s personal stories and quick opinions to the daytime talk show, including an account of a childhood alter ego who still appears in her life. She also said her fifth album explores the harder parts of relationships.
Asked whether life exists elsewhere in the universe, Doja said, “I think that there might be life somewhere else in the universe.” She was less convinced about Mars, adding, “If it’s anything it’s like microbes.”
Doja said she could not say whether passengers should take their shoes off on a plane. “It depends on where you are,” she told Hudson. “And what your vibe is. If you have no socks on? No!”
She also weighed in on group chats, saying 20 people was too many, as was 15, while 12 was about right.
On ghosts, Doja said she did not believe in them and disliked how horror films portray them. Asked what she would want a ghost to do, she replied, “Be tangible. Like be materialized. If I can punch you that’s scary because then that means you can punch me back!”
Doja chose “One More Time,” a track from Vie, when asked which song she would listen to for the rest of her life. She said the song’s vocal position felt more suited to her voice than any other track she had recorded.
She also described Michael, an alter ego she created in fourth grade. Doja said she wanted to be a boy then and went to school in “boy garb,” including Dickies pants, an oversized T-shirt, sneakers and a hat.
“The teachers respected it for two weeks and then I was like, ‘I don’t want to be Michael anymore!’” she said. Doja added that Michael remains part of her spirit and sometimes appears on her TikTok feed.
Vie, which debuted at No. 4 on the Billboard 200 last month, drew inspiration from love, Doja said. “I’m always talking about relationships, but with this album I wanted to touch on the more visceral parts of relationships, the hardships of it,” she said, including jealousy, which she described as unhealthy for a relationship.
