Warhorse Studios says attackers accessed company systems and data in a serious cyberattack, leaving the Kingdom Come: Deliverance developer working with cybersecurity experts to secure its systems. “Our immediate priority is to secure our systems,” CEO Martin Frývaldský said.

The studio has contacted authorities to help track down those responsible. It is also investigating the incident and assessing its full impact, but has not yet said how extensive the breach was or what data may have been affected.

Warhorse Studios investigates breach

In a statement published on its website, Warhorse called the incident serious for the company and everyone affected. The developer said its experts are working to secure systems, investigate what happened and determine the scope of the breach.

Frývaldský said the studio was taking steps to protect employees, partners and its community. “We are dedicating the resources needed to address this situation and will communicate further information as soon as we responsibly can,” he said.

That leaves the extent of the attack unresolved for now. The company said it would not comment further or conduct interviews on the matter, and plans to provide updates when it can.

The breach matters beyond the studio’s day-to-day operations because Warhorse is developing games and works with employees and partners whose information and systems may be affected. The company has not described any specific impact on those groups, so its assessment of the breach will determine what it can say next.

Studio has games in development

Warhorse developed Kingdom Come: Deliverance and its sequel. It is also working on a Lord of the Rings role-playing game described as an “open world Middle-earth RPG,” as well as a new Kingdom Come game expected to be Kingdom Come: Deliverance 3 or a spinoff.

The studio’s public statement did not say whether the cyberattack disrupted game development or affected players. Its immediate response, as described by the company, is focused on securing systems, establishing the breach’s full extent and protecting people connected to the studio.

IGN reported that Warhorse has declined further comment and interviews while its investigation continues. Frývaldský said the studio would share information “as soon as we responsibly can.”
