JAKARTA — A fundraising drive for communities affected by forest and land fires in Kalimantan marked Indonesia’s 2026 National Creative Economy Day, linking a national industry celebration to people facing disaster. Organizers also held a collective prayer in Jakarta, with participants joining from seven Indonesian provinces and 17 countries, according to the event’s chief organizer.
The drive offers a channel of support for fire-affected residents, but organizers have not disclosed how much money was raised, how it will be distributed or which communities will receive aid. Those details will determine how the announced solidarity reaches people on the ground.
Prayers across provinces and countries
The event, known as Hekrafnas, included the singing of national songs, a prayer gathering and fundraising. Kawendra Lukistian, chairman of the Central Board of the Creative Economy Movement (GEKRAFS), said participants outside Jakarta were also asked to pray together.
“Because we are facing challenges and disasters, we asked the 17 countries and seven other provinces to also hold a collective prayer so that together we can ask the Almighty to give us strength and the ability to face all the challenges ahead,” Kawendra said.
The gathering broadened the event beyond its focus on Indonesia’s creative economy. Its fundraising appeal targeted people affected by forest and land fires in Kalimantan, a large Indonesian island shared with Malaysia and Brunei. The information released about the event did not specify the affected districts or provide a breakdown of donations.
Creative-sector agreements announced
Hekrafnas also featured the signing of memorandums of understanding between GEKRAFS, the Indonesian National Police and the Ministry of Law’s Directorate General of Intellectual Property.
